Gupt Kamakhya

Vaishno Devi shrine in Gupt Kamakhya, Temple with a difference!

Kamakhya temple situated on Nilachal hill in Guwahati, Assam is primary amongst the 51 Shakti Peethas related to the cult of Sati. Entire Nilachal Hill itself is the abode of MAA (mother Kamakhya) & holds a lot of mysteries which have not yet manifested properly for normal human beings.

One such place here in Kamakhya on Nilachal hill is a shrine of divine mother in a Cave/Gufa known as “Gupt Kamakhya Vaishno Devi”. Since this Gufa/Cave is in midst of Jungle & not accessible easily to everyone it is known as “Gupt Kamakhya” (Gupt = secret in Hindi). Path towards the Gupt Kamakhya goes from the exit of main temple western gate (see directions at the end of this post). The other noticeable difference here is that the MAA is pleased with non-violence, love & compassion, and hence she is called as “Vaishno Devi” – Worship of divine mother with Satvik rituals & STRICT NO for animal slaughter!

There’s a mysterious story about the discovery of this Gufa/Cave shrine of Vaishno Devi in Gupt Kamakhya. Cycle Baba, ardent devotee of MAA was given a revelation in the dream during Ambubachi Mela of 2007 about this shrine, which is located amidst Jungle. Cycle Baba soon made his way to discover this shrine. Later the Goddess instructed him to keep this as a secret for 3 years and clear the spot of the jungle and make it decent for offering pujas. Baba continues with his efforts in preserving the vicinity of the Vaishno devi shrine & offering daily puja.

Inside the Gufa, there is  a spring of water, just beneath the MAA’s IDOL. This water is very sacred & pious as it directly comes from Gupt Kamakhya. Just another Gift of MAA to her worshipers..
